BLOGGER INTERVIEW 003 - DIMITRI BARCLAIS

AO-AO came across ‘Antillais’ many months ago, and we’ve been hooked since. It’s a side project of Parisean Dimitri Barclais which posts beautiful photos of beautiful women aswell as vintage and forgetten treasures. After chatting to Barclais, we found that aswell as being a Law Student, he collectively runs Eye-Know with friends Abadidabou and Hugo Le Duff. Eye-Know is a photography blog demonstrating the trio’s photographical talent from parties hosting the likes of Get The Curse, Le Loup, CHEF, Les Darons and Brodinski.
01: Firstly, your side project ’Antillais’ has gained rapid support from all areas of fashion, music and art, but we really have to know, how do you find so many great images and videos everyday?
Dimitri: I spend 2-3 hours a day every day digging random pictures on the Internet: photography websites, blogs, flickr accounts. Internet is full of nice images, it’s easy to find something you love if you have time to do that. It’s the same thing for the videos.
02: Paris seems to host fantastic musical and artistic talent, how do you like Paris? And would you like to live in any other city?
Dimitri: I really like Paris: the architecture, the food, women, you can find a lot of musical kinds. I like the nightlife even if Paris is not the most dynamic city on this point. But, the most important is how you do party. It’s like Internet I guess: you need to dig if you want to spend good times… I don’t know if I want to live in any other city, maybe in the future. I just know that I can live almost everywhere and the life could be completely different.
03: Eye-Know and Antillias are blogs full of great images and photographs, have you ever thought about extending into a written blog?
Dimitri: I write too much because of Law studies. I prefer share visual things on the Internet.
04: Photography blogs such as Eye-Know really raise the publicity of events and dj’s, how do you view the relationship between music and photography?
Dimitri: They are married. Music makes people dance, sing, scream, laugh, seduce each other, have fun. And photography freezes these situations, these feelings for eternity. I like when the party going mad and you “press the pause button” with your camera. You can see some incredible things when you editing your pictures. And good pictures can be interesting for the reputation of the djs and parties. Every one in the world can have an idea of how the night has been. It’s a good publicity, some kind of postcard.
05: ‘Antillais’ is full of beautiful women, and you often take photographs of individual women, describe your ideal woman?
Dimitri: I don’t have a type of ideal woman. The most important thing for me is what I feel when I see her. It’s more than just her style, her body, her hair, her skin color. If in my head I have a voice who says “oh my god”, she win. It’s difficult for me to describe exactly what I mean.
06: What does Eye-Know have planned in the future?
Dimitri: Sincerely I have no idea. I hope we’ll continue to make pictures of parties, people, and beautiful places. I do this for my pleasure, I don’t want to have a photographer’s career, it’s just an escape from the Law studies.
07: We ask this to all our bloggers, what are your favourite blogs at the moment?
Dimitri:

08: Your recent photographs of your vacation to Lanzarote are amazing, where else are you wanting to travel and capture?
Dimitri: Thank you, this island is amazing. If I could all over the world and especially in Africa. There are so many things to see.
09: In England, most parties have cheap, tacky photographers to come in, however in Paris, it seems photographers such as yourself and theCameROscope have a fantastic and friendly relationship with the party, how do you make it a ’family environment’?
Dimitri: Maybe because we like taking pictures of parties of our friends. Everybody know Ro and he’s a really cool guy, probably this is why it’s so friendly.
10: Lastly, who is the person you’d most like to photograph and why?
Dimitri: That’s such a difficult question… if this person is a man: Nelson Mandela, one of the greatest men on the Earth. A woman: Noémie Lenoir, a french model, she could be the answer to question 5.
