AO-AO GUESTMIX 011: VHYCE + INTERVIEW

Bio:
Belgian based tech-house prince Vhyce is now gaining support from the likes of Savage Skulls, Beataucue, Mikix The Cat, Andy George, Highbloo, and Brodinski. In 2010, he’s gone from finishing his first track to getting signed by Sweat It Out! to having his productions been played by Erol Alkan. A chaotic year. He’s also remixed Yolanda Be Cool’s ‘We No Speak Americano’ along with remixes for Lee Motimer, Tim Corin and Hector & Nate. He was generous enough to do both a mix filled with goodies as well as an interview. The mix can be streamed on Mixcloud below, with a download link for those of you who want to portably listen to this. Interview after the jump.

Interview:
AO-AO: Hello Vhyce aka (Vicente Milioto Da Palma)… How are you doing today?
Fine thank you.
AO-AO: Can you share with us a little background information? Where you grew up and what brought you into the music scene originally?
I grew up in La Louvière a small city in Wallonie. There is nothing exiting to do there but that’s maybe because of its boringness that people try making music. I always listened to a lot of music thanks to my parents.
AO-AO: Where do your musical roots lie? We want to know which 5 albums have changed your perception on music.
Well that’s hard to distinguish which albums changed my perception of music but the 5 albums I’ve listened the more to are in no special order
- Can - Tago Mago
- Young Marble Giants – Colossal Youth
- The Velvet Underground and Nico – The Velvet Underground and Nico
- Nirvana – In Utero
- The Clash – The Clash
AO-AO: Your EP was one of my most played of the year, the outcome was phenomenal. How long did it take you to make? And what was the main inspiration behind it?
Don’t know if it’s really one of the most played of the year but it would be nice. The 2 tracks are pretty simple. Don’t know exactly how much time it took because I don’t like to finish immediately the tracks I start. But it wasn’t too long. The main inspiration are the films from Emir Kusturica , the main sample of Voivodine is coming from the soundtrack of one of his films. I bought that cd when I was 16. I listened again to that cd and thought it would have be cool to do something with it.
AO-AO: Your track, Voïvodine (Ha Ha Ho Hey) gained massive support, from the likes of Brodinski, Erol Alkan, and so on. Do you have a favorite track off your EP? And why that track?
I love all the tracks of the ep. The remixes are really great and it was amazing to have such great remixers for my first ep
AO-AO: When creating a track, is there a particular aim for it? Or just all about having fun and getting people to dance?
No particular aim, I just try to do something I like.
AO-AO: If you could collaborate with one artist who would it be? And then if you could pick one artist to remix that track, who would it be?
I’d like to collaborate with a lot of people but I’d say Highbloo because we never managed to finish a track together despite we nearly live in the same street. For the remix I’d take switch. Because I always prefer the switch remix.
AO-AO: With your debut EP that was released in June, and three remixes that came shortly after, can we expect any more work before the year finishes?
Yes, I’ve already finished another remix for Yolanda Be Cool - Villalobos For Presidente, a remix for Lee Mortimer, and a remix for Swick. And for the moment I’m working on some new tracks.
AO-AO: With 2010 coming to an end sooner or later, what were a few highlights from this past year?
Finishing my first track, getting signed to Sweat it Out, and Erol Alkan playing Voivodine.
